About Kundel

Not every company can seriously claim to be a leader of their industry, but with Kundel Industries, that claim has real merit. They often offer not only the industry’s best warranty, but also the industry’s best features, with every new piece of equipment they put on the market.

At North East Shoring, we talk a lot about keeping the trenches, and O.S.H.A. off your back. This is much more than a simple catchy tagline and refers to the quality of the equipment we sell or rent. All of the staff at North East Shoring worked in the trenches at one time or another, and we would only sell what we would trust to keep the earth from collapsing on us or our crews. We rent and sell Kundel and keep our clients up to date on the latest safety guidelines.

A Commitment to Safety

Safety isn’t a manual; it’s a culture that we’re proud to be a part of. All Kundel products are proudly made in America, for the American working class — because that is who we are and that is who we serve.

Kundel History

Kundel Industries was started by contractor Robert Kundel Sr. in the dining room of the Kundel family household.  After the downturn in the construction market at the end of the 80s, Robert Kundel Sr. found himself reevaluating where he stood in his industry.

Understanding he needed to make his mark, he began looking for ways to do just that. With the help of a local engineer, Robert was successfully able to design a trench box that could better serve contractors’ needs than the options that were then available on the market. His trench boxes have their design based around real world usage needs like excavator capabilities, contractor usage, soil conditions, and pipe length; areas of the trench box that experience more driving and wear and tear were reinforced, allowing for better and safer use.

Unlike modern Kundel trench boxes, this first trench box had problems with moveability. The company’s one large overhead crane could not handle its transport. Because of this, Kundel also started moving into crane designs, creating a series of parallel runways with consecutive bridges along each runway. Using engineering concepts like pendulating runways and articulating bridges, Kundel was able to create a crane system that put less stress on the supporting structure and offered extremely smooth transportation.

From there, Kundel has been continuing to make strides in shoring equipment innovation, helping contractors around the world perform their work efficiently and safely.

Kundel’s Mission Statement

Kundel’s mission statement involves honoring Christian faith through giving and serving their customers and employees, managing with integrity, honesty, and respect, and keeping their employees and customers’ best interests at heart. To enact this mission, Kundel focuses its efforts on two main fronts:

Disciplined, productive craftsmanship is focused on the design stage, building stage, distribution stage, and service stage.

Partnering with reputable vendors who can supply high quality material on schedule at a price that the customer can handle.

Why Buy Kundel?

Products Made For the American Working Class By the American Working Class

With Kundel products, safety is never sacrificed for quality. All Kundel products well exceed O.S.H.A trenching and excavation safety standards and each Kundel box is certified, with an S/N number displayed on the plate. Other safety features offered by Kundel trench boxes include:

  • Pounding Pads — for maximum driving force without compromising the durability of the walls.
  • Stacking Lugs — solid steel bar welded to a thick backplate. Stacked boxes won’t shift.
  • Spreader Sockets — surrounded by steel and welded to the back plate through a thick wall pipe, you can rest assured that it will hold.
  • End Tubes — made of high tensile strength steel, not wood. That means they won’t break down, and there will be no bend in the back end.
  • High Taper Bottom — with 18” of taper, it is easier to drive, saves bedding material, and ensures maximal stability.
  • Smooth Outside Skin — allows the leading edge to cut into the trench like a knife, no rounded edges to bind in the ditch.
  • Continuous Steel — continuously welded steel parts for lighter, yet incredibly durable boxes.

For a name you can trust in an industry that relies on its safety equipment, Kundel is the name of quality.
